Parents in the town of Greystones, Ireland, came together to implement a town-wide ‘no-smartphone code’ in May 2023. Six months later, Norma Foley, the minister for education, unveiled new guidance encouraging all primary schools in Ireland to consult parents about the introduction of voluntary smartphone bans.

Schools leading the way

Parents at a primary school in the West Country have collaborated and launched a pledge to delay smartphones until at least secondary school. They have shared a comprehensive guide for how to do it here. 


Parents at Notting Hill Prep in London got together to bring a smartphone-free pledge to their school, committing not to give their child a smartphone until at least year 8.
