Regional Leaders and Team Members: Roles and Responsibilities
Our Regional leaders and Team Members are the lifeblood of the SFC movement. They’re the people getting involved and leading the charge for SFC in their local areas.
Both roles are flexible, so anyone can get involved in SFC in their community, whether they’ve only got an hour or two to spare each month, or want to dedicate much more time to the movement.
What’s involved in being a Regional Leader? The Regional Leader role is designed to be adaptable according to people’s capacity – at its most basic it only requires being an admin on your region’s SFC WhatsApp community, but it can also encompass much more; from coordinating local volunteer teams to appearing in local media to encouraging more schools to go smartphone free. The role is designed to be what you make it; and in many areas there will be multiple Regional Leaders working together to build momentum on the ground.
THE BASICS Being an Admin on your region’s WhatsApp group involves:
- Joining the Regional Leaders SFC WhatsApp community
- Forwarding on messages from HQ to your regional community
- Notifying us of any major issues, technical or otherwise
- Forwarding on any ‘gold’ from your community to the Regional Leaders WhatsApp group
THE OPTIONAL EXTRAS Coordinating local action with other Regional Leaders could involve:
- Encouraging as many local parents as possible to sign your region’s Parent Pact (launching in September)
- Managing your region’s SFC microsite (launching in September)
- Representing SFC in regional media interviews (if you like that sort of thing!)
- Organising local SFC talks or events with other parents, children or schools
- Creating local SFC working groups to spread the message in their communities of influence - for example a group of local teachers or business people
- Running a regional SFC Facebook group if you think that would help in your area
- Using your creativity and initiative to spread the SFC message in your communities in ways we haven’t thought of yet!
Some Regional Team Members may have specific skill sets that could be used on an ad hoc basis to support Regional Leaders. Some may have relevant sector specialisms or networks that could unlock new opportunities. Some may just have a network of other parents to share the message with.
It’s an open ended and flexible role, and the requirements for each SFC Regional Community will be different. Regional Leaders and Regional Team members can decide between themselves how best to work together to build momentum in their areas.
How SFC HQ supports Regional Leaders & Team Members We aim to support our Regional Leaders and Team Members with the guidance, tools, inspiration and community solidarity they need to help SFC thrive in their areas. As a starting point, Regional Leaders and Team Members will have access to:
— Regular Regional Leaders Zoom calls with SFC core team to share updates from behind the scenes and discuss progress/challenges
— Guidance and how-tos for managing your WhatsApp groups and Microsites
— Technical support for managing your WhatsApp groups and Microsites
— Messaging, communications and PR guidance for those interested in building relationships with local media outlets
— The opportunity to share your region’s stories and successes with the wider SFC community
— The opportunity to participate in new product development and SFC communications
This is all new to us and we’re working it out as we go, so the support we offer will evolve as we learn more about what the community needs. Please share your thoughts about what would be most valuable as the movement grows. We’d love the Regional Leaders community to support one another too – there will be so much to learn from each other as we start to roll out SFC Regional Communities.
If you have any questions about the above please email community@smartphonefreechildhood.com - please note we’re a very small team so may take a while to respond until we build more capacity!
Together we’re powerful
